Ingredients

  • 1 box (15.25 oz chocolate cake mix)
  • 1 box (3.9 oz instant chocolate pudding mix)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Mix the Pudding Base: In a medium bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and milk until smooth. Let it sit for about 5 minutes to thicken.
  3. Layer the Cake: Pour the pudding mixture into the greased baking dish. Sprinkle the dry chocolate cake mix evenly over the pudding layer, making sure it’s spread out but not stirred in.
  4. Add Butter & Chocolate Chips: Drizzle melted butter over the cake mix, covering most of the surface. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly on top, and add nuts if desired.
  5. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the top is set and slightly crisp, but the center remains gooey and soft.
  6. Cool & Serve: Let the cake cool for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for a perfect, indulgent treat.
