2 cans (16 ounces each) Del Monte green beans drained
2 cups chicken broth
1/4 cup butter
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon white pepper
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon minced or chopped garlic
4 ounces diced raw bacon or 4 ounces cooked ham
1/2 medium onion diced
Instructions
- In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the diced onion and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- If using raw bacon, add it now and cook until crispy. If using ham, add it later with the green beans.
- Stir in the minced garlic, white pepper, black pepper, and sugar, and sauté for another minute.
- Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a simmer.
- Add the drained green beans (and cooked ham if used) to the pot, and simmer for about 20-25 minutes until heated through and flavors meld.
Notes
For an extra flavor kick, consider adding a sprinkle of red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce. Adjust seasoning to taste.
