Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups old-fashioned oats
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract. Mix until fully combined.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Add the Fun Stuff: Stir in the oats, chocolate chips, and chopped nuts (if using). Make sure everything is evenly distributed.
- Scoop and Shape: Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop rounded portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheets. Leave about 2 inches between each dough ball.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. The centers will look slightly soft but will firm up as they cool.
- Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
